HEADACHES

Chiropractors work on neck pain, back pain, arm pain and leg pain, but we also help many people with headaches.  There are many types of headaches; tension headaches, migraines, hormonal headaches, etc.  I am going to talk about some of the main headaches that we help people with at our clinic:

1.  Tension headaches.  Tension headaches can be located in the back of the head, on the side of the head, and sometimes on the front of the head.  They can even start in the back of the neck and radiate up in to the head.  Stress can make them worse.  In our experience, 60% of tension headaches come from a pinched nerve at the base of the neck (C7) and 40% of tension headaches come from the top of the neck or the atlas.  When these pinched nerves get corrected, the headaches go away.

2.  Migraine headaches.  Migraines are often severe in nature.  Many times, they are located on one side of the head or behind one eye.  They can be accompanied by nausea, dizziness, and sometimes light sensitivity.  The atlas, or the top vertebra in the spine causes most migraines.  When this vertebra becomes misaligned, it can pinch the bottom part of the brain stem and the top of the spinal cord, causing cord pressure.  Other migraines are caused by pinched nerves in the lower part of the neck and middle of the back.  The nerves in the lower neck control the thyroid and the mid back nerves go to the adrenals.  When these nerves are pinched, it can cause changes in the body chemistry, which in turn can lead to migraine headaches.  Regardless of which type of migraine you have, getting the spine checked and adjusted will correct the underlying problem and get rid of the headaches.

3.  Hormonal headaches.  These headaches are experienced by women on a monthly basis.  They are often caused by pinched nerves at L1 through L3 in the low back.  These nerves control the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries.  If these nerves are pinched, these organs do not function at 100% and this can lead to bad headaches when the hormones change on a monthly basis.  Correcting these pinched nerves can correct this type of headaches.

Regardless of which type of headache you or your loved ones suffer from, we can help by correcting the spine and removing the nerve pressure.
