Low Back Pain

Low back pain is a condition that is experienced by most people at some time in their lives. Six out of ten people have experienced a severe bout of low back pain. Many people experience low back pain on a daily basis. The most common cause of low back pain is a pinched nerve in the low back. There are five different lumbar vertebrae that can become misaligned in the low back, as well as two pelvic bones and the sacrum. Nerve of the Month - T2

T2 is the second vertebra down the spine from the base of the neck. Every nerve is made up of 1/3 muscle/pain fiber and 2/3 function fiber. The muscle/pain fiber feels pain, sensation, and controls the muscles. The function fiber of T2 primarily controls the heart and also has some control of the lungs and thyroid. see full article (PDF)

Nerve of the Month - T6

T6 is the 6th vertebra down the spine from the base of the neck. It is directly between the shoulder blades. The T stands for thoracic. The thoracic vertebrae are medium sized compared to the smaller neck vertebrae (cervical) and the larger low back vertebrae (lumbar). see full article (PDF)

Nerve of the Month - C7

The C7 nerve comes out of the neck under the 7th cervical vertebrae. This nerve has 2 branches or trunks. These branches come out of the neck, radiate across the shoulders and down the arms in to the fingers. Inside the body this nerve has a branch that controls the thyroid gland. see full article (PDF)

Nerve of the Month - L5

The fifth lumbar nerve is located in the bottom of the spine at the center of the low back just under the belt line. This nerve exits the spine under the fifth lumbar vertebra and is called the L5 nerve for short. see full article (PDF)
